Arkansas Powerlifting!
The original appeal of powerlifting to me was the fact that it was an underground sport and it was a way to apply a natural desire to compete. Most lose that chance for competition after high school but with powerlifting weight classes and age divisions athletes can continue to be active into their golden years. Once involved in the sport and exposed to the others involved it seemed silly that it was a mostly unknown activity. More people needed to know and get plugged in. Over the years, I’ve heard people say it won’t be known and accepted unless it becomes an Olympic sport. I really disagree with that. I think it needs to be built from the bottom up. Even the ones already competing had a limited knowledge of where, when, who and how. The original concept of the Arkansas Powerlifting Facebook page was to put some of these puzzle pieces together. The calendar helped with the when and where. The top 10 by formula helped tag the who. Who is the best, who are the stars? I see a day soon when not only event ads will say “XYZ fed event” but ads featuring the top lifters in the state competing that day. People will care to see the best perform. Now we know the “who”, they are taking care of the “how”. Most top guys are taking on clients and some are offering training seminars for low dough to absolutely free. Hands on instruction from the best in the state/country is just a short drive away in most cases. More strength performance gyms are popping up. Gyms with monolifts, competition benches, specialty bars and equipment. Gym owners and coaches with experience and knowledge to help you improve. Take advantage!
