Geared Powerlifting
I've been asked why Equipped lifting and to talk a little about it.
There's always so much controversy over equipped lifting. "It's cheating!" Or "if I put that crap on I could do that too!" To which I laugh! But you very seldom hear somebody asked the question of why! So here goes!
For me it started off with an injury. I had been a raw lifter for years never done a lot. When I had an injury with my hip (came out deadlifting). So, I went to bench only. After a while I got to where I wanted more of a challenge. I purchased a denim bench shirt for training, thinking I would do it easily! Man was I wrong.
To be completely honest it's been the most challenging thing that I've ever attempted to do. Everything I do in equipment is magnified tenfold it seems like. It's easy to fake it when there's 200 or 300 pounds on the bar. It's hard when there are 7-800 pounds on there!
After benching in equipment for a while. I had an opportunity to try on and use a Dead lift suit. I found out that I could dead lift again (thanks Terry Tucker) and soon after a squat suit (thanks Kurt Madison) and away I went!
The equipment for me put me back in a full power meet position while challenging me in an insane way!
It's crazy but I love it nonetheless!
If you're curious about it, get with me on Facebook or at one of our meets. We'll set a time up to where you can come down to The Proving Ground and try it out. I'll bet I've got something that fits most people!
